St Duthus FC today were pleased to confirm the club's intention to apply for membership of the Highland Youth Football League -- and they will do so in time for the 2018-19 season. Working alongside Tain Juniors F.C., a committee and coaching team is currently being appointed to take forward the launch of the first branch of the 'Young Saints' -- namely St Duthus FC Under 17s.
Club Chairperson Niall Harkiss confirmed the announcement this afternoon.
"We are delighted to be able to let everyone know about this new project - one which has been met with much anticipation and excitement within the club over the past few months. The addition of a St Duthus FC Under 17 team in the town will bridge the gap between the mid secondary school ages and adult football and will ensure that Tain's next crop of young players have a natural pathway into the senior game. It has been an objective of ours since our revival almost two years ago to create opportunities for youth football in Tain and we feel that this is undoubtedly our best place to start. Looking to the future, as an SFA Quality Mark accredited club, St Duthus Football Club are committed to promoting the wider game of football to footballers at all age levels. It is our intention to work closely with members of the community to ensure that no football player should have to leave Tain to find a team to train with or play for, from school age to adulthood. We look forward to being able to release more information about our new venture very soon."
Further information on the Under 17s, including details of training dates, will follow in the coming weeks. A further announcement confirming club roles and specific contact information will be made in due course. Please stay tuned for more information.
In the meantime, we would like to hear from anyone who may be interested in joining the committee, volunteering with the new team or talking about sponsorship opportunities. The club can be contacted on firstname.lastname@example.org or via Facebook.
