FOLLOWING the announcement made in January that St Duthus FC shall be seeking membership of the Highland Youth Football League (U17), the club have now also registered their intent to compete as an Under 17 team in the Ross-shire Youth League during the summer -- in an effort to prepare for the 2018-19 season.
Last month’s announcement confirmed that steps had been taken over the past six months to establish a new Under 17 team in Tain -- as St Duthus FC aim to fill a gap in the footballing pathway for players in their mid-teens. Players born in years 2002 and 2003 will be the primary focus for the project as it begins.
The four team Ross-shire Youth League league will begin in April after the Easter Holidays break comes to an end, and training sessions for the new Under 17 team are set to begin in March. The club will then, if accepted, begin their 2018-19 Highland Youth League campaign in August. The first games of the new season will be played on Sundays through till March 2019. It is expected that the club will also arrange several friendly matches to be played during the summer.
The "Young Saints" team has already taken significant strides in terms of coaching structure. Following a general meeting of the St Duthus committee last week, the club were delighted to confirm that the Under 17s will be led by a very capable and experienced coaching team of Gavin MacDonald, Mark Stainke, Steve Spence and Davie Borland. In addition, Steve Spence has been appointed as the club’s Child Protection and Wellbeing Officer.
The club has also confirmed that a public Q&A session will be held on February 21st at 6pm in "Room 21" at Tain Royal Academy Community Complex. Parents and players are invited to come along to meet the new coaching team and members of the St Duthus football club committee and enjoy the opportunity to find out more about the project. We invite all who are interested to please attend this session.
