Alness United 3 St Duthus 5

IN RAINY and miserable conditions at Dalmore Park tonight, a young St Duthus side won 5-3 away to Alness United to record their first victory of the pre-season.

With over ten first team players missing due to injury, work and other commitments, Stuart Ross elected to field a makeshift side including a number of trialists, while player/coach Paul Cowie was also named in the 15 man squad for the game.

A hesitant start from the Saints saw Alness take a 2-0 lead in at half time thanks to goals from Lewis Macleod and Jude Fraser. An Adam MacDonald goal reduced the deficit though, following good work from the midfield shortly after the restart to make it 2-1, and on 55 minutes Jamie Skinner netted with a confident strike to level the scores.

Just after the hour, the Saints' young trialist midfielder gave his side the lead and with fifteen minutes remaining, Miller Mackay made it 4-2. The trialist notched a second and extended the Saints lead to 5-2 with ten minutes remaining before Alness notched a further consolation through Gregor Mackay.
