THE QUARTER Final of the Jock Mackay Cup is now upon us as St Duthus welcome Thurso to Grant Park in what will Saints' last chance at silverware this season.
It has been over three weeks since St Duthus have kicked a ball in anger due to weather driven postponements - but with the weather looking very favourable for this weekend, we can almost certainly look forward to an entertaining cup tie between two sides who will be looking to advance to the semis.
The only previous meeting between the sides this season took place at the Links back in October -- and that match proved the catalyst for an up-turn in form for the Saints. A 4-4 draw on the day kickstarted a change in fortunes for the Tain men as they embarked on a seven game unbeaten run in the league, and they have lost just twice overall since then.
Manager Stuart Ross is keen to ensure that the break due to postponements doesn't quell his side's momentum going into this one.
"We have found memories of playing in the Jock Mackay Cup, having reached the final just two years ago. Although we have the home draw, Thurso will be tough opponents tomorrow and we'll have to approach the game in the right manner. We'll have to turn up in the right frame of mind if we want to book ourselves a place in the semi-final.
We may have lost momentum in terms of playing games, but the boys continue to train well and they are itching to get back to playing and back to winning ways."
It has been reported that Thurso may be slightly under strength for the tie, however Saints won't be without their absentees. Barry Kenny, Lewis Ross and Martyn Farquhar will all be unavailable due to work, while Paul Beaton is also set to miss out due to rallying commitments. Adding to the squad, Saints are expected to look at a couple of trialists and perhaps some graduates from the youth side.
The match kicks off at 1.30pm. Hot food and drinks will be on sale at Grant Park during the game and at half time.
