A closely fought game at Grant Park went the way of the visitors from Orkney today, as Saints' chances of catching Invergordon were all but killed off for the season.
A Zack Singh goal on 13 minutes gave Orkney the early advantage, before chances at either end followed. Charlie MacDonald came close with a header over the bar from inside the box, and Ben Bruce had the best St. Duthus chance of the first half with a shot which flashed across the face of goal and wide at the far post.
The Tain side pushed for an equaliser as the second period progressed, particularly throughout the latter half. Winning a series of corners and free kicks, they came close on a number of occasions but were ultimately punished in the final minute of the game when substitute Jamie Clouston broke clear and beat John Allan with a precise finish to put the result beyond doubt.
Detailed match report and highlights to follow.
The defeat reduces Saints' chances of winning the title down to some acute mathematics, despite Invergordon's 3-2 loss to Golspie, the latter they will welcome to Grant Park next week for a key game in deciding final placings.
